Emma Sater Park

At the other end of the city, is Emma Sater Park. Named after a city clerk who served from 1948-1966. This eastside park features a Melan arch bridge constructed southeast of town in 1893. This bridge marked the first experiment in using the innovative concrete-steel system developed by Austrian, Josef Melan. The structure was moved to Rock Rapids in 1964. Information about this bridge is included in the Smithsonian Museum of American History’s exhibit on bridge building. This park has a playground, open shelter for picnicking and a restroom.
