Rock Rapids Clean Up Day

On Thursday, May 9th, 2019, the City of Rock Rapids will be conducting Clean-Up Day. Residents are requested to have their items placed on the CURB by 7:00 AM on Thursday morning, May 9th, as Clean-Up Day is a one-day event.

Because various types of materials will be picked up separately, it is necessary that the junk be separated into three piles. One pile is to include wood scraps and furniture made of wood only. Metal items (except appliances) are to be placed in the 2nd pile. Other non-hazardous waste, such as furniture and carpeting, can be placed in the 3rd pile.

Disposal of certain items require stickers, available from the City Office for an additional charge. Each of the following items requires a $25 sticker: washers, dryers, microwaves, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, furnaces, water heaters, dishwashers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers and stoves. Each item of computer equipment, including towers, monitors, hard drives and keyboards, requires a $5 sticker. Each TV will require a $15 sticker.

Certain other items will not be picked up as part of Clean-Up Day activities. These items include trees, yard waste, recyclable materials, remodeling scraps and debris, demolition debris, and hazardous waste, such as tires and lead-acid batteries.

Clean-Up Day is for City residents only. The City will not accept items or materials that come from outside the City. Allowing non-residents to get rid of their junk on your property increases the cost for everyone else. If you’re caught doing this, your entire pile will be left and Law Enforcement will be notified.

Residents are urged to clean up the community in other ways, as well. This includes tidying up of yards, removal of old or abandoned vehicles or equipment, and proper care and maintenance of buildings. It will be greatly appreciated if everyone will use this event to make a noticeable improvement in the attractiveness, cleanliness and betterment of our community.

Please feel welcome to call the City Office at 472-2553 for more information.
