Benson’s Skating Rink

Mural Location:

126 North Story St., South wall

Artist:

Steve Troy

Mural Number:

8 – Completed 2004

With fond memories, we recall the 1950’s to the mid 1970’s and say “thank you” to Ann and Veryl Benson. They provided a wholesome place where area youth could meet friends and have fun.

At one time, Rock Rapids was home to a traveling skating rink. Steve Troy painted this mural directly on the side of Moe’s Garage in 2004. It’s sponsored by one of the skating rink owners’ daughters and her husband, Shirley and Lyle Glascock.

Another of Anne and Veryl’s children, Keith Benson, served as mayor of Rock Rapids for a time.
